Unite the Isle of Wight have organised a peaceful rally opposing Government cuts to council funding to take place outside County Hall on Budget Day (Wednesday).
Organisers are calling on Island residents to join the rally between 3.30-5pm (the Budget Meeting starts at 5pm).
They say,
Please attend and support this important demo to help highlight the following:
- The difficulty the Council has faced in setting a budget (due to the massive reduction of funds from central government)
- If the situation doesn’t change, next year more services will be under threat
- Despite the news that the Department for Communities and Local Govt will ‘visit the Council to discuss the Isle of Wight’s unique situation and its finance in future years’, there is no guarantee further financial help will come, and there is no time scale set for such a visit or decision
- Our MP, Andrew Turner, voted for cuts, despite agreeing we are in a dire situation. Many Tory Councillors support him
