Planning Development Behind Blythe Way/Carter Avenue

Planning Development Behind Blythe Way/Carter AvenueStephanie Welch leaving a detailed comment on a previous posting reminded us of an article we read in the CP this weekend about plans to develop one of the few remaining green spaces in Shanklin town centre.

As part of the property and land sell off in the latest capital receipts programme, there are plans to develop 46 new properties, comprising, houses, flats and maisonettes along with 57 parking spaces on land behind Blythe Way and Carter Avenue.

We were amazed to read that 100 (yes, 100) residents attended a recent town meeting to express their concerns about the over development.

Clearly the residents of Shanklin realise that unless they come together to object to this apparent over-development, that it could risk being passed, although leader of the Council, David Pugh, has stated that he supports the campaign.

So far, there have been 129 comments left on the Planning Web site regarding the application, and anyone wishing to add their comments must do so before the end of the week. Closing date is end of the day on Friday 24th October.
