Plans to convert unwanted retail premises into holiday lets

An empty Seaview salon could be given a makeover as plans are unveiled to turn it into a holiday let.

The Pier Road shop used to be the town’s Post Office, but after it closed in 2015, the premises was taken over by the salon.

Empty since January 2020
The beauty salon has been closed and empty since January 2020 and there have been unsuccessful attempts to sell the site as a commercial business.

Plans have now been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council, by Mr M. Suter, to transform the shop into a holiday let, with parts of the building demolished and the front altered.

‘Good quality addition to the tourist accommodation’
Planning agent on behalf of the developer, John Gosling, said in documents the let would be a good quality addition to the tourist accommodation in the popular area.

Mr Gosling said through its guests it would support the shops and services in Seaview.

In keeping with other properties
The proposed alterations on the front would be painted white in keeping with other properties on Pier Road.

So far four supportive comments have been made on the plans with one saying it would greatly improve the appearance of the building, which has become an eyesore since it shut.

“Let’s reuse it usefully”
Another said they would like to see more shops, but after years of having a blank space on the road it has to move on.

They said,

“I cannot see anyone will use it as a shop so let’s reuse it usefully.”
