Plodcast Podcast Launched By Hampshire Police

Plodcast launched by Hampshire PoliceEllo, ello, ello, what’s all this we’ve got goin’ on ‘ere then?

Hampshire police have started producing podcasts, cleverly named Plodcasts.

The first Plodcast has just been released and covers Smartwater (a new one to us) which is being used to mark people’s possessions to make the easier to recover if they suffer from a burglary.

It’s hosted by Ian Sainsbury, an ex-BBC journalist who is now working with Hampshire Police, along with a number of other journalists.

Chief Inspector Tim Ashman, who leads Hampshire Constabulary’s Safer Neighbourhoods co-ordination team supports the Plodcast, saying “The Plodcast gives us a new way of keeping the communities informed about our work, and will help us reach those people who prefer to get their news and information electronically, rather than through more traditional methods.”

Those readers who aren’t of the age to have been brought up on Enid Blyton, wouldn’t know that The Plod as a nickname for the police came from Noddy stories, where Mr Plod was featured.

We’re told that there are a lot of senior police around the UK that will be creating their own blogs, connecting closer to the citizens.

We at VentnorBlog have got our own little thing that we’re working on in this area. Stay Tuned!
