This in from the Police, in their own words.
Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault in the High Street, near the junction with Landguard Road, Shanklin between 1.30 and 1.50am on Sunday, May 13.
A 23-year-old man was hit over the head with a bottle. The bottle was then used to cause further injury to his lower back.
Treated for injuries
The man required hospital treatment, including stitches, for his injuries and was kept in overnight.
DC Angela Gore said: “There would have been a number of people in the street around the time of the incident. We are particularly keen to speak to a small black vehicle that was driving up the High Street towards the Old Village and had to slow down to avoid the incident.”
An 18-year-old man from Sandown has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been bailed pending further enquiries to report back to police on Monday, 9 July.
