Police investigate link between Island and Portsmouth child sex assaults

Police have confirmed they are investigating a possible link between the sexual assault on a eleven year old girl at Fort Victoria, Isle of Wight and two similar incidents in Portsmouth.

Detective Inspector Floyd Higginson said:

“We are aware of two incidents in Kingston Road in Portsmouth on Tuesday, September 23 and are looking at whether there is any connection to recent reports on the Isle of Wight.

“We also continue to work with our colleagues on the mainland to find out whether any similar historic reports have been made in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and whether they could be linked.”

Assault at Fort Victoria
The sexual assault on an eleven year old girl took place on Saturday 6th September at around 11am at Fort Victoria.

The man was described as:

  • White man with pale skin
  • In his 50s
  • Uncut grey hair
  • Clean shaven
  • About six feet tall
  • Average build
  • Deep voice

OnTheWight had also received information about an attempted assault on another child on Hallett’s Shute the following Tuesday (9th September), but Police have neither confirmed or denied they’d received a report.

Detective Inspector Floyd Higginson went on to say,

“A number of lines of enquiry are being followed to identify this offender and would urge members of the public to report any information to us which could assist our investigation.

“We reiterate our personal safety advice is to ensure that parents are aware of where their children are and avoid letting them walk or play alone in secluded areas. We ask that you continue to report any suspicious activity or people to us.”
