Did you know that Karl Marx finished his famous work Das Kapital in Ventnor?
Medina Publishing are delighted to announce that our popular Ventnor: Cradle Of The Russian Revolution guided walks are returning to the Ventnor Fringe Festival this year.
A choice of dates
Led by author Stephan Roman CMG (pictured below) and Ventnor Heritage Centre and Museum, walks will take place on 27th, 28th an 29th July.
Attendees can expect to follow in the footsteps of the summer colony of Russian revolutionaries, writers and free thinkers who made Ventnor their home in the 1800s.
Opposing Russian Imperialism and laying the foundations for the 1917 revolution, the likes of Ivan Turgenev and Alexander Herzen turned Ventnor into a laboratory for an alternative liberal Russia.
Two-hour walk
The walk begins in front of the Winter Gardens and ends at the Ventnor Heritage Museum.
It lasts two hours and includes a short steep section of hill walking.
An updated edition of Stephan Roman’s popular book Isle and Empires: Romanov Russia, Britain and the Isle of Wight was published by Medina Publishing in April 2022.
Always popular
The author ran a series of walks at last year’s Fringe, and these were oversubscribed. Please make sure that you book early to avoid disappointment.
Copies of the new updated edition of Isle and Empires by Stephan Roman are available in paperback from the Ventnor Heritage Museum and also from Medina Publishing and Bookshop in Cowes.
