Thanks to VB reader Mark Lansbury for sharing details of this unfortunate case of price discrepancy at Tesco Ryde. He has copied us in on a letter sent to Trading Standards. Ed
Over the years we’ve noticed Tesco’s prices exceed those of Morrison’s (and lately Sainsbury’s as well).
These higher prices without the alleged mistakes in pricing which some simple maths bring to light.
As such, we rarely visit Tesco.
When is a free tea caddy not a free tea caddy?
However when we do, we always come across a number of dodgy offers and less than clear pricing.
Yesterday afternoon a visit to Tesco Extra in Ryde (Extra what? Cost, perhaps?) we came across this jewel of an example of Tesco’s special pricing: PG Tips 160 pyramid tea bags.
The first photo is the PG Tips standard package of 160 pyramid tea bags (without the ‘free’ tin/caddy) and the second photo shows Tesco’s ‘Special Purchase’ with ‘free’ Jubilee tin/caddy.
Some year three maths shows a purchase of the tea with the ‘free’ tin/caddy will set one back 82 pence over and above the regular box of tea.
I suspect Monkey is not amused. :-)
