This in from Quarr Abbey, in their own words. Ed

As part of Quarr Abbey’s scheme and growing plan, we will be introducing three additional allotments at approximately 1300m2 in size, with the provision of a shared new welfare facility in readiness for the growing season of 2014.

Develop key skills
The scheme will offer the successful organisation or group the opportunity to support their volunteers/ clients in learning and developing key skills in land cultivation, growing and the harvesting of fruit and vegetables.

The organisation or group will need to be self-managing and capable of working to Quarr Abbey’s growing plan. The scheme will also offer the benefit of generating income to support your organisation.

Calling community service organisations and groups
The project is open to all established community service organisations and groups who have the management resource, scope and horticultural experience to manage and operate the allotment.

As part of the criteria, interested groups will be required to involve a minimum of ten volunteer’s, or client based persons to actively participate in the projects gardening and Horticulture activities.

Three years+ commitment
The level of time commitment and attending to the allotment will vary from a minimum of three days a week to five days a week during peak summer months.

The project will require at least three years or more long term commitment and participation, therefore organisations or groups interested in applying will need to demonstrate levels of sustainability with internal and external resources, management and volunteer/client numbers.
