Ramblers formally open 100th donated gate

On Sunday 31st May the Isle of Wight Ramblers held a special walk to commemorate 80 years of Ramblers voluntary work to help establish and improve Britain’s footpath network.

Patricia Partridge, Island Deputy Lieutenant joined the 4.4 mile accessible walk which left Sandown Station and followed the Alverstone Nature Reserves.

100th footpath gate formally opened
During this event, the 100th footpath gate donated by the public as part of our Island ‘Donate a Gate’ scheme was formally opened.

Patricia cut the ribbon on the gate and said how pleased she was to see the success of this scheme which has been operating since 2009.

‘Running the Ramblers Award’
As part of National Volunteers Week, David Howarth, who has chaired the IOW Ramblers for the past six years, will this Saturday be receiving the National President’s ‘Running the Ramblers Award’.

Many thanks to everyone who voted online in recognition of David’s hard work and achievements.
