Reclaiming the Spirits of the Water: Jeanne Mills-Holland

A new exhibition by Jeanne-Mills-Holland comes to the Quay Arts next month.

Reclaiming the Spirits of the Water: Jeanne Mills-Holland ‘Reclaiming the Spirits of the Water’ involves the development of fast digital photo shots from the surface areas of water and then transformed into decorative prints and oil paintings.

Drawing parallels with David Hockney’s 1960’s and 70’s Pool series, Jeanne is encouraged by one of Hockney’s quotes;

‘I am so interested in theories which propose that there is more order in what looks like disorder. For instance, we are discovering what looks like a disorderly flow of water actually has its own order’.

Background
Jeanne Mills-Holland from Ryde, began her working life as a mechanical design engineer and after starting a family, decided to change direction to art teaching.

Having initially trained at King Alfred’s College Winchester (B.Ed.Art), Jeanne completed three years comprehensive teaching followed by Further Education Adult Teaching, and finally special needs peripatetic Art Teaching in Andover.

Her interests during that period at Southampton Institute were ceramics and she began exhibiting locally.

She then studied further at Winchester School of Art, gaining an Honours degree in Visual Art.

Since then, she has exhibited collaboratively with fellow graduates from the Inscape Art Group at various locations, including; Greenham, Salisbury, Winchester, Radley School Norden Farm and Alresford, involving a mixture of painting and installation.

Throughout this period, Jeanne’s interest has been with water and its related issues. After being introduced to digital photography, the forms and textures which the pixels produced became a groundbreaking event for Jeanne.
