Following the problems earlier today with the Red Jet, Red Funnel explain the reason behind the problems. Ed
Red Funnel are pleased to announce that its Red Jet Hi-Speed service is now operating normally again after today’s problems. The vehicle ferry service was unaffected.
What caused the problems
The cancellations were caused by floating debris in Southampton Water (a result of the recent storms) getting sucked into the waterjet impellors of Red Jet 3 and Red Jet 5 and an engine fault on Red Jet 5 that has persisted over the last few days but has now been resolved. The situation has been exacerbated by the lack of a spare craft as Red Jet 4 is undergoing her annual refit at Marchwood.
James Fulford, CEO commented “Today’s issues, some of which were outside our control have made it a difficult day for customers and we would like to apologise sincerely to all those affected. The engine problems with Red Jet 5 have now been resolved, and with Red Jet 4 returning from refit in a few days’ times we are confident, floating debris apart, that customers will see a return to our normal high service standards.”
