Retrospective approval sought for airport hangars built without permission

Aircraft hangars have been built at the Isle of Wight Airport, in Lake without planning permission.

Now, airport owner Mr Danial Subhani, is seeking permission to retain them.

Planning enforcement complaint
In November 2021, the Isle of Wight council said it received a planning enforcement complaint about three hangars which had been constructed without the necessary permissions.

They were built in the same design and scale as ones approved in 2016, with a curved roof and overall height of 4.7 metres, and finished in a green covering to blend in with the surroundings.

Protecting aircraft from turning in high winds
In planning documents submitted to the Isle of Wight council, agent for Mr Subhani, Norman White said the hangars were built to give protection to the aircraft.

The hangars were being used by aircraft owners already using the airport, on Scotchells Brook Lane, as some craft had turned over in the high wind.

Mr White said the hangars also protected the aircraft from salt corrosion and adverse weather.

The public consultation runs until 24th February 2023.
