It was with great sadness that we read of the death of Isle of Wight resident, Robert Paynter. He passed away on 20th October, 2010 aged 82.
Robert was a world-renowned cinematographer who had made the Island his home.
We were very lucky – and he was very generous with his time – to have two interview sessions with Bob in his house in Yarmouth where we spoke at length about his long career in film.
He was a lovely, lovely man.
VB interviews on the way
So far we’ve only published the small section of those chats, where we spoke to him about his involvement in Michael Jackson’s Thriller video.
While we were there, Bob told us that film director John Landis had emailed him a link to the VB story, when we first discovered that the Island had such a great cinema talent on the Island – which gave us a warm glow.
We’ll do our best to get the full-length versions of those interviews published.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
