‘Walking Football’ has the same rules as the usual game, but there is one difference – no running is allowed.
The Isle of Wight Council’s community sport’s activators have arranged a new club that will meet every Sunday from 9 November at Ryde Academy’s outdoor multi-use games area.
It will take place between 5.30pm and 6.30pm and costs £3 per session. You don’t have to register, simply turn up and join in.
Although the sport is aimed more at the older generation, anyone can take part.
Alex Minns, Isle of Wight Council strategic manager for recreation and public spaces, said:
“Walking football is a relatively new version of the game but it gives people, particularly the older generation, the chance to play in a friendly and slower environment.
“It is a great chance to get active at a suitable pace and keep fit and lose weight while having fun.”
As well as no running allowed, there is also no slide tackling in walking football.
