Running from Isle of Wight to Isle of Man to fund research in Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Abi Bentinck-Hinton

We hear some amazing things that people will do in order to raise funds and awareness for charity and this one is no exception.

OnTheWight reader Damian Haworth got in touch with us earlier this week asking if we could highlight an incredible challenge that is taking place at the moment.

Inspired by the strength of character and determination of an old school friend who has been fighting against Inflammatory Breast Cancer, Abi Bentinck-Hinton decided she would run from the Isle of Wight to the Isle of Man.

Battle against Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Abi’s friend Kath was diagnosed with Terminal Inflammatory Breast Cancer around nine months after giving birth to her daughter.

As you’ll hear in the video below, she’s put up a brave fight against the invasive disease.

Abi’s challenge
Having set off from the Island last weekend, Abi is about half-way through her challenge to run the equivalent of nine marathons in under two weeks.

On Wednesday night, Abi said, “That makes 118 miles altogether since Saturday! To say this is hard would be an understatement – my body aches, my joints throb, my muscles are stiff and my feet are sore – but that is nothing compared to what Kath has to go through .. which is why my head stays focused! Thank you so much people for all your support, your messages are all so lovely and your donations are hugely appreciated.”

Today, (Good Friday) Abi will be running from Tewkesbury to Stourport.

Donate online
If you are able to show your support with a donation, please pop over to the Isle to Isle Website where you can donate online.

Our very best wishes to both Abi in her challenge and to Kath, whose determination to remain positive and make the very most of her life is an inspiration to us all.
