Staff at Wightlink Ferries were sad to hear that young Islander Joe Ellis lost his battle against cancer this week. However, with the permission of Joe’s family, the ferry company will continue with its plan to hold a collection for his charitable Trust at this Saturday’s film show on Ryde Pier (July 5).

Friends and family raising money for a pioneering treatment for the 13 year old have announced their campaign to raise £100,000 will continue to help another family in the same situation in the future; they have already collected more than £70,000.

Wightlink Media Relations Manager Chris Cowley said,

“We were upset to hear the sad news about Joe but are determined to raise as much money as we can in his memory.

“We hope everyone coming to our free showing of the last Transformers film on the pier will give generously to this very good cause.”

The pop up cinema at the end of Ryde Pier, organised by Wightlink with the Isle of Wight County Press and Isle of Wight Radio, will show Transformers: Dark of the Moon to whet movie goers’ appetite for the latest in the series Transformers: Age of Extinction which features Dinobots.

The 200 free tickets were allocated on Wednesday (July 2) to people who applied online through Wightlink’s website.
