Celebrations began at the Club’s Annual Presentation Dinner on the 25th October held at the Yelfs Hotel, Ryde, where the Club was founded in 1877.
Guest of honour from Carisbrooke Shipping
Club Captain Pete Allsopp welcomed the members and guests and thanked them for attending and for their support of the Club over the last year and extended a special thank-you to the Club’s guests of honour – James McConachie and his wife Fay, of Carisbrooke Shipping, who sponsored the Club Regatta and contributed to the purchase of new equipment.
The Club were also pleased welcome Club Vice President Mike Merritt and his wife making their first visit to the Island and the Club for many years.
Presentation of awards
Following a presentation on the Club’s achievements in 2014 which included South Coast Rowing Championships Open event wins – in the Men’s and Ladies Senior Fours and a Hants & Dorset ARA Championship for their Junior Senior Four, James McConachie helped the Club’s Rowing Captain Mick Jenner present the Annual Awards.
The Coxswain’s Cup was awarded to Austin Smith, with the First Year Oarsman Trophy going to Ben Toms; Jodie Cocker and Steph Kissick were jointly awarded the Ladies Trophy with Adam Edwards receiving the Men’s award. The Coaches Cup was awarded to Henry Adams and the Committee Cup to John and Margaret Hutchraft with the Captain’s Cup awarded Carole and Pete Hewison.
Club spoons
The traditional “First Hants & Dorset ARA win” Club spoons were awarded to Steph Kissick, Sam Brading, Will Ford, James Smith and Callum Lockhart.
On Saturday, 8th November ten members of the Club attended the Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Association Annual Presentation Dinner at the Novotel in Southampton where the Club’s Junior Senior Four of Ollie Give, Adam Edwards, Stephen Johnson, James Cleary and Cox, Sam Barding collected Associations Championship Trophy and medals.
