Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat: Saturday CalloutsThe Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was requested to launch three times on Saturday 23 April 2011 by the Solent Coastguard.

Miss Mouse taking on water
1st at 13.45 was to the motor-vessel Miss Mouse one mile south west of the west Princessa buoy that was taking on water. It was found that the bilge pumps weren’t copping and a bigger pump was needed.

It was decided that further help was needed and the Bembridge lifeboat was requested as it has a salvage pump on-board. Bembridge took the vessel in tow whilst pumping it out.

Culver Cliff
2nd at 14.44 was to a report that young lads were stuck on Culver Cliff and cut off by the tide on reaching them it was found they were making their way round Culver as an adventure.

One of the lads had slipped and cut his leg and wanted to be taken off, he was treated on-board and taken to White Cliff Bay where the Bembridge Coastguard Team took over.

It was found that earlier Bembridge lifeboat had also been called and they didn’t want assistance.

Cliffs have a very sharp surface
It should be noted that the cliffs there have a very sharp surface and it is like rubbing your hand down a cheese grater and that being that close to the cliffs that lose chalk bits are falling all the time.

3rd at 17.10 was to a report of a 18ft speed boat near the shore at Sandown. It was checked over and towed back to Yaverland Sailing Club.
