Secondary School Open Evenings Start Tonight

If like us, your child is at middle school in year six, seven or eight, you’ll have received info from the council recently about moving up to secondary school next September.

Although all year six and seven pupils have already been informed which schools they have been allocated to (see table below), parents will have the opportunity to “express a preference for a place at an alternative school”.

October deadline for admission forms
If you wish to change the school that has been allocated for your child, you need to complete the application form which is available from the School Admissions office at County Hall by 29th October.

If you child is in year eight at the moment you can apply online or by completing the application form sent to all parents at the start of term.

This must be done by 4.30pm 29th October at the very latest.

Visit the open evenings
If you intend to appeal for a place at another school, we imagine you’d want to visit the other schools beforehand to find out which one is best suited to your child’s needs and abilities.

Starting tonight and running through until 21 October, each high school will be holding open evenings, giving parents the opportunity to ask questions to the organisations that will be running the individual schools, including AET (Academies Enterprise Trust), IIT (Island Innovation Trust) and CPP (Cowes Pathfinder Partnership).

The dates and appropriate years are as follows:

*An opening evening for Year 8 in Carisbrooke and an open evening for Years 7 & 8 in Sandown have both already been held by Carisbrooke High School and Sandown High School respectively.

As mentioned above, pupils have already been allocated by the Isle of Wight council to their secondary schools as follows
