Sapphire looking at her camera on the beach

Short film gives insight into artist’s techniques and outlook during Boojum&Snark residency

A new short film has been created as part of the photographic residency of an artist based at Boojum and Snark, Sandown’s bar and pico-brewery.

Produced by Nosy Marketing, the film hears from Sapphire Goss, whose Arts Council England funded residency in Sandown led to the great exhibition currently on show at Boojums.

In the short film (see below), Sapphire explains her working methods and we’re even treated at the end to a track by Isle of Wight band, As We Leave.

Sapphire’s outlook is fascinating and the gentle film is not only informative but relaxing to watch.

Explored the landscape of Sandown Bay through different scales of time
Sapphire says,

“In 2019 the IOW was declared a UNESCO Biosphere reserve – an area of outstanding natural beauty where the ecosystem and the people who live alongside it are in harmony. For the SPHERE creative residency I wanted to look at the often overlooked patterns, structures and complexities that make up the natural world, and our place entwined within it.

“I explored the landscape of Sandown Bay through different scales of time: from the fleeting to the ancient – the deep time of the night sky, geological layers, human history, natural cycles of seasons, growth and decay, to droplets captured mid-air for a moment then gone.

“My work is about that moment when you look at a reflection on the surface then it shatters and dissolves in shimmering points of light to reveal the depths of other worlds underneath, they’re all our own world, but seen through different lenses or filters.”
