Steve took over the club from former manager Paul Sleep towards the end of the 2011 season and guided the team from near the bottom of the Wessex Premier division to 13th place by the end of the season.

Since then, Broughy has consistently competed at the top half of the table and finished the 2012/13 season sixth, the 2013/14 season fourth and this season Port sit eigth with three games to go.

Brougham: “We’ve built a great squad here”
He said,

“It was an honour to manage the biggest football club on the Isle of Wight and to challenge myself at this level. Newport are a top club and I can leave happy with the progress we’ve made, we’ve built a great squad here.

“I would like to thank all of the players in the team, they really have given their all and I’d like to thank Simmo and all others connected with the daily running of the football club as they’ve been great with me.

“As a manager, I feel that now is the right time to go; it’s the end of the season and I feel I’ve taken the team as far as I can. I’m running on empty now and just need to go away and recharge the batteries.

“I’ve had a great time here and my fondest memory was probably our FA Vase run when we beat Brighouse Town. I’ll never forget that cup run.”

13 wins under new manager in first season
Broughy took over from Sleep in November 2011 and his first game was a 2-1 home win against Laverstock & Ford; Corbin Ricketts and Ross Gregory finding the net that day. Newport went on to consolidate that season with 13 wins under the new manager including the double over his former team Brading Town.

During the next three seasons, Port have consistently completed in the top half of the league including an incredible start to the 2013/14 season where they led the table for two months before eventually finishing fourth. Steve has also overseen two Isle of Wight Senior Gold Cup wins since he took over with Newport yet to play Northwood St Johns this Wednesday (15th April 2015) in the Semi-Finals at Beatrice Avenue.

Steve will remain in charge for the remainder of the season which includes any fixtures in the Isle of Wight Gold Cup.

The Directors of the club will shortly be advertising the position with a view to filling the role as soon as possible.
