How young people confront problems in their lives such as bullying, alcohol and drug abuse and housing is the main theme of this year’s Wight 2B Heard conference.
The well known and popular annual event is now in its ninth year and takes place at the Bembridge Coast Hotel on Friday 7 March. This year’s theme is titled ‘Taking Down Barriers’. Over 250 young people will have an opportunity to discuss and debate these issues using a multi-media, interactive approach including video, drama and workshops.
At the start of the day, a report will be given to guests on what has happened and the changes made since last year’s conference. During the day, young people will have the opportunity to question a guest panel on a variety of issues. The panel includes David Pugh, Leader of Isle of Wight Council, Alan Wells, the council’s Cabinet member for Children & Young People, and Steve Beynon, the local authority’s Director of Children’s Services.
Amongst the guests will also be Trevor Gordon who is a renowned Equalities and Diversity Speaker. He will be motivating the young people to get involved and express their views. The Island’s Youth Council will also be presenting to the audience and encouraging young people to continue using the organisation to ensure their voices are heard.
The Wight 2B Heard conference is a multi-agency event, which is project managed by Connexions and Isle of Wight Council.
