Teachers’ Union: We didn’t leak attacking Ryde Academy letter

As was reported over the weekend, a letter from Head of Ryde Academy, Dr Rory Fox, with damning claims against many of his teaching staff has been leaked to the national press.

OnTheWight got in touch with John McGee from the Isle of Wight NUT branch. He told us,

“The Isle of Wight NUT is sorry that the letter from Dr Fox, outlining what may be his views regarding Teachers and Unions, has been leaked to the Press in this way. We are confident that no member of this Union is responsible for the leak.

“The picture portrayed in the letter or in the articles is not one which the NUT recognises or accepts. It is very far from an accurate reflection of the work and effort of Teachers in this School or any other, as anyone who has a daughter or son or spouse who is a Teacher, or a child in School will know.”

John went on to add,

“This is not a time for negative comments which unfairly undermine the teaching force in the school. It would be better to work with the Teachers, the Unions, the Academy and the Local Authority to build on the hard work of Teachers within the school.

“The best outcomes for the pupils in the school will be achieved by Management and Teachers working as a team, with due respect and proper recognition of the difficulties which they face and the successes which they achieve.”

AET regret the leak
A spokesperson for AET told OnTheWight,

“We will not comment on the content of the letter, but very much regret that it has been ‘leaked’ to the national press in this way.”
