The Great Winter Get Together encourages us to break the stigma and talk more about feelings of loneliness

The late Jo Cox MP said,

“I will not live in a country where thousands of people are living lonely lives, forgotten by the rest of us.”

This year between 17th and 30th January communities will join together to discuss loneliness kicking off on ‘Blue Monday’.

‘Great Winter Get Together’
This happens to be the theme of this year’s first ever ‘Great Winter Get Together’.

We all feel lonely at different points of our lives but many struggle to talk about it. Through sharing experiences together or reaching out to someone who you know in your life who may feel lonely, we can break the stigma and normalise talking about loneliness.

Most likely to experience loneliness
Were you aware that the age group who are most likely to experience loneliness are 16-24 year olds?

The Great Winter Get Together Website provides resources for teaching staff to use with children in Primary schools and Secondary schools. Anyone can take part.

Take part in beach walk
Newport and District Labour Party Branch took part in a virtual coffee morning on Sunday 23rd January and have organised a beach walk on Sunday 30th January at 2pm, meet at the seafront promenade (North Walk), opposite the Waterside swimming pool, Ryde.

Together, we can change the habit of not discussing loneliness, bring people together and promote healthier and happier communities!
