Congratulations to chef patron Robert Thompson at The Hambrough, Ventnor.
News reaches us (thanks Carla) that the Isle of Wight restaurant has retained its coveted Michelin Star for another year, having made it into the Michelin Guide 2011.
Fans of the restaurant will remember that it first gained a Michelin Star back in 2009, just six months after Robert Thompson arrived.
What’s the criteria?
The judges still use the same criteria as when the Michelin first introduced restaurants to their Motoring Guides in 1926.
There only five criteria considered in awarding a Michelin Star; Quality of ingredients; skill in preparing them and in combining flavours; level of creativity; consistency of culinary standards and value for money.
Three stars signify exceptional cuisine, worthy of a special journey; excellent cooking get two stars, worth a detour; one star is deemed a very good restaurant in its category, worth a stop.
Have you sampled the delights?
We’ve never eaten at The Hambrough ourselves, so we couldn’t give you our own opinion of the restaurant, but as is common with most restaurants, we’ve heard mixed reviews with some people loving it and others not so keen.
This news is a great boost to the Ventnor tourist industry when so much of what we have to offer is at risk through budget cuts.
Check out the full list of all restaurants with a Michelin Star (or two or three).
