Bridget Macdonald brings her ‘The Poetry of Earth’ exhibition to Quay Arts

Thanks to Georgia for sharing details of this upcoming exhibition with OnTheWight readers. Ed

Island born artist Bridget Macdonald returns to Quay Arts with her major solo exhibition ‘The Poetry of Earth’ from 13th July to 31st August in The West Gallery.

She will be showing evocative, large-scale charcoal drawings and paintings in oil, including a series focussing on the Island’s St Catherine’s Lighthouse and Niton Undercliff.

Wide range of subjects
The exhibition features a wide range of subjects; drawings based on fragments of Ancient Greek sculpture, Sylvia Plath as a beekeeper, a bull once owned by the artist’s grandfather, paintings of the River Severn in flood and views of the Island landscape. At first glance, the images appear disparate but they soon reveal a central theme which is both elegiac and celebratory.

“Her work is at once richly descriptive of physical reality and deeply imbued with memories of her own past.” Sheila McGregor AXIS, Director
