Tonight sees a very special event take place at Quay Arts Centre in Newport. This is one that’s well worth heading out for and tickets are just £4 each!
From 8pm tonight, Quay Arts will be screening the classic 1929 black and white film, Piccadilly, with a live piano soundtrack.
Widely acknowledged as the pinnacle of silent British cinema, Piccadilly stars the screen goddess Anna May Wong as Shosho whose exotic dance routines enthral a suave club owner.
Mick Smith will provide musical narration
This is a show business melodrama seething with sexual and racial tension will be given a musical narrative by non other than Mick Smith, the former Director of Quay Arts.
Director, Jo Cowan, said, “Our cinema audience has gone from strength to strength and we hope this will give them something different to enjoy. This is how these films were supposed to be seen and while 3D cinema is incredible entertainment there is nothing like the atmosphere and tension created by a live soundtrack.”
