Totland Seawall Path works

Totland Seawall: Work to new path steaming ahead (photos)

Work on Totland’s seawall path, which was destroyed by a landslide in December 2012, is progressing really well and might see the access between Totland and Colwell open by the end of the summer.

New path could “become an attraction in its own right”
Helen Wood, who has spearheaded the campaign to save Totland Seawall, told OnTheWight,

“The new path is shaping up really well and the feedback has been very positive.

“The landslip area is being transformed into a fabulous asset for the West Wight which can only enhance Totland’s appeal. The path over the landslip could become an attraction in its own right”

More work to do
The surface shown in the photos is not the final surface. What you see is a chalk/ geotextile/ tensar Geogrid sub-base that will soon be topped with a 2.5m wide (Type 1) limestone path. The gradient will be a little lower on the final path than appears in the photos.

Helen has been keeping those interested in the progress up-to-date through the Totland Sea Wall Campaign Facebook Page.

She went on to say,

“I’m absolutely thrilled with the progress. They have come up with a sensitive design which will look great.”
