Under the Bed Sale: Last chance on Saturday to grab your bargain of the year

Saturday is the last chance for you to pick up a unique piece of Isle of Wight art, from £5 to £350 there is something for everyone’s pocket.

More than 50 artists have taken part in the much-anticipated ‘Under the Bed Sale IW’ as it returned for its second year.

Taking place in the West Gallery at Quay Arts, Newport, the show features stunning pieces of artwork across several mediums.

Affordable original artwork for all
The sale features work from artists who have exhibited nationally and internationally, with several holding prestigious awards and memberships in national arts organisations.

Saturday is the last chance for collectors, first-time buyers and anyone looking to own a unique piece of art at an accessible price.

A variety of media will be available, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramics and mixed media works. There will also be sketchbook pieces, experiments, slight seconds, collage and even objects that defy categorisation.

A win-win for artists and buyers
This event is a win-win for everyone involved. Artists can clear space in their studios and move on older work, while buyers can take home a one-of-a-kind artwork on the day.

Run as a not-for-profit event, ‘Under the Bed Sale IW’ directly supports the exhibiting artists. Last year’s sale generated a real buzz and provided valuable support for the Island’s creative community.

Organising artists Fran Farrar, Fiona Schindler, Jill Wilkinson and Karen Mead have been excited to bring the event back for another year.

Huge success in 2023
Fran Farrar, one of the organising artists, reflected on the success of last year’s sale:

“Last year was such a vibrant, energetic event with almost 800 pieces of work sold over the week, and we anticipate that this year will be equally as busy.

“We are particularly thrilled to be holding the event in the wonderful West Gallery at Quay Arts. As the main arts venue on the Island, it feels a great place to be sharing work for sale at accessible prices.”

Where and when
Under the Bed Sale IW closes at 5pm on Saturday 8th February at Quay Arts, Sea Street, Newport.

This weekend also features the Kashmir Fringe Festival with live music throughout the other gallery spaces. It’s a great way to show your support for this important arts centre which celebrates its 50th birthday next year.
