Vestas Protest: Desire To Stay Eco Hindered by IW Council

We have been pretty disappointed by the rumours flying amongst some IW councillors with regard to the Vestas Sit-In demonstration.

Vestas Sit-In: No Mess But A Desire To Stay EcoAfter the Cabinet meeting a few weeks ago we heard from more than one councillor that (although they hadn’t even been down to the site) there were grave concerns at the mess that was being created outside the Vestas plant.

We have been at the Vestas site nearly every day since the Vestas occupation started and have not seen any ‘mess’ hanging around there.

What we have witnessed are people clearing up after themselves, making use of bins and keen to recycle – not surprising actions from those interested in protecting the environment.

Council say NO to Recycling bins
In fact, one mainlander supporting the Vestas workers who is camping on the roundabout, told us that she had asked the Isle of Wight Council for some recycling bins so that they could ensure stuff doesn’t go to landfill unnecessarily.

We understand that the response from the IWC was: No, we don’t have any we can give you.

Isn’t that a pretty surprising response for a council who claim to be striving for an ‘Eco-Island’.
