We caught up with Geoff Lumley for a brief interview last night at the rally outside Vestas.
His feelings were clear, “An appalling decision by Vestas to stop production.”
“I believe they made a 90 billion profit recently and when you’re talking about a couple of hundred quid for people who have been working here for a number of years, it’s an insult.”
he continued, “I’m sure the company could treat their workers a lot better.”
Consortium floated
VB learnt that he had been speaking to Ed Miliband about the situation, hoping that a route could be found to forming a co-operative to continue build blades on the Island, using Government money.
We also discussed the viability of making offshore turbine blades.
Where’s IW Council?
Some people had commented on VB that none of the senior people at the IW Council had been seen at the protest, or even publicly commented on it – in particular the Chief Exec, Steve Beynon or The Leader, David Pugh.
Cllr Lumley said that he thought that when the job losses had been announced, the “IW Council was very good at arranging people to lose their jobs as efficiently as possible.”
He questioned why the IWC wasn’t helping more.
Have a listen for yourself …
