Two weeks ago Isle of Wight filmmaker, Andrew Wilks filmed and produced a video link-up between students at Ryde School and their contemporaries from two schools in Gaza.
The project was initiated by Rachel Bridgeland (Peter Venner’s partner) by providing contacts at Ryde School and at the Ministry of Education in Gaza.
Life on the ground in Gaza
Andrew tells us that his idea was to have two sets of young people discussing the situation in the Gaza Strip in order for an audience to gain a greater understanding of life on the ground in Gaza.
The project would also gives a voice to the ordinary young people of Gaza to speak for themselves about their lives.
Sensitive timing
Andrew went on to tell us that the video link-up was hosted in Gaza by the Deputy Director of Education at the Ministry, who appears briefly in the video link-up.
The link-up had to be carefully co-ordinated as the Gaza end had to ensure that they had a generator running to supply power during scheduled power outages, and also that the Ministry building was empty to get maximum Internet bandwidth.
The first part of the link-up is below with another coming later in the week.
We’ll bring you the second part later in the week.
