Procam Films produce spectacular documentary on Southern Water’s treatment site (updated)

Homegrown Isle of Wight firm, Procam Films, have shot some pretty spectacular scenery over the last nine years, but perhaps nothing like this.

Procam Films were commissioned by Southern Water to create an eight-minute documentary demonstrating the work of their water treatment site in Sandown.

All produced in-house
Nathaniel Wheatley (pictured left) and Tom Squires (pictured right) worked on the production, which was created and directed in-house at Procam Films, including the script writing for the narrator, Rob Hamilton.

Wheatley: Educating the public on the water treatment processes
Nathaniel Wheatley from Procam Films told News OnTheWight,

“Southern Water’s aim was to be as transparent as possible for the public, so people can have a really good understanding of what exactly happens when you flush the toilet, or any water and grime goes down drains from houses, businesses and street drains.

“They want people to be educated on what the process entails to bring the water back to a good standard and the problems and situations that sites like this face, and it also shows possible solutions for the future and pollution.”

Southern Water are going to be opening up the Sandown site for tours in the near future and it’s on one of these that you’ll be able to see the full-length film.

Full creative freedom
Procam Films was set up nine years ago, with Nat starting full-time five years ago and Tom joining him in January 2022.

For this project the team were afforded the benefit of pretty-much fill creative freedom. Nat explained,

“When we first met the managers at Southern Water to discuss the project, luckily for us they explained roughly what they wanted to create, but gave us at Procam full creative freedom to come up with a style.

This is perfect for us, because it means we don’t have anything holding our skill set back, with outside influence or guidelines. So we came up with this cinematic documentary style approach and was left alone to create.”

Why the American voiceover?
You might be wondering why Procam chose the voice over to be an American rather than British actor.

Nat explained,

“The idea to go with an American voice was to keep the cinematic vibe strong, we did test a few other English narrators, but we felt an English voice seemed to weaken the cinematic style.”
