In the last week (14th – 20th September) the number of new positive Coronavirus (Covid-19) tests on the Isle of Wight totalled 283 (a drop of 127 since last week) – a rate per 100,000 population of 200.71.
The cumulative total since the pandemic began now stands at 11,128 – a rate per 100,000 population of 7,892.20.
The latest R number for the South East increased slightly to 0.9 to 1.2, with a reduction in the growth rate percentage per day down to -1 to +1.
Update
Tuesday afternoon’s figures on the Covid Dashboard reveal 54 new positive tests today, taking the rolling weekly figure to 309 – – a rate per 100,000 population of 219.15.
The cumulative total since the pandemic began now stands at 11,182 – a rate per 100,000 population of 7,930.50.

Deaths
The Office for National Statistics report three new deaths took place (in hospital) during week 36 (deaths that occurred up to 10th September, but were registered up to 18th September 2021).
As of 21st September, the Government Dashboard records one new death, taking the total number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test to 272.
As of 10th September, the cumulative number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate on the Isle of Wight rose by five to 304.
Covid patients in hospital
The Covid dashboard shows that as of 14th September there were 32 patients being treated for Covid-19 at St Mary’s hospital.
The Government dashboard also reports four patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.

An interactive map shows how many ‘cases’ per area of the Island. This has a function where you can tap in your postcode and it will take you to your vicinity. It’s not always fully up to date, so you need to check the date of the data.
Test results for those from the mainland using the IW Test Centre are not included in the figures for the Island.
Only get tested on the Island
Residents are reminded that tests are available for those with Covid-19 symptoms and to ensure you are tested on the Isle of Wight.
The main symptoms of Coronavirus are:
- a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
- Most people with Coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms. Book via the NHS.
Delta variant
Symptoms of the Delta variant have been described in the ZOE Symptom App as:
- Headaches
- Sore throats
- Runny noses
- Fever
If you do not have symptoms but want to get tested, you can do this by picking up a test kit from a pharmacist or by ordering the home test kit. More details on the Keep the Island Safe Website.
