In case it’d passed you by, today is Shrove Tuesday. The day before the first day of lent and a time when traditionally households used up their ‘rich and fatty foods’ – eggs, milk and sugar – before 40 days of fasting.
Given the variety of ‘rich and fatty’ foods on offer in the 21st century, many might consider the ingredients of a pancake as far from rich.
What do you have with yours?
There was a time when pancakes were served with simply lemon and sugar, but over the years, the variety of toppings and fillings has grown and some people have ditched the traditional for wild and wonderful concoctions stuffed in their pancakes.
Perhaps you prefer the smaller thicker style pancakes to the large thin crepes.
