Two People looking at the green impact website

Your Isle of Wight business could win Gold for its green credentials, as council scheme relaunched

Every business on the Isle of Wight is to be offered a chance to gain an award from Green Impact, improve their environmental performance and reduce operational costs.

The popular scheme, which last ran on the Island from 2019-2020, was relaunched by former Green Impact Island champion Cllr Julie Jones-Evans, who is now the Isle of Wight Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, business development and tourism.

Green Impact is a free scheme, open to all Island businesses.

Support from Website
Participants get access to the Island’s own Green Impact Website and an online toolkit giving them ideas and solutions to improve their sustainability and reduce their carbon footprint.

Reducing operating costs is a particularly important benefit this year, with the increased cost of energy even small reductions in energy use can add up to big savings for businesses.

Jones-Evans: Delighted to be bringing Green Impact back to the Island
Julie visited one of the previous Gold Award winners at the Love Running shop in Upper St James Street, Newport to celebrate the relaunch.

She explained,

“When I was Green Impact Island champion I got to visit many of the participating businesses and see the real benefits the scheme could bring.

“So I am delighted to be bringing Green Impact back to the Island this year.

“I know that there are many businesses looking to sign up, both those who previously won an award, and new ones who missed out last time.

“This council is committed to Mission Zero, and we’re taking practical actions like this so everyone can help, by supporting the Islands Biosphere status and growing a greener economy.

“Green Impact is an enjoyable, free project that every business can join.

“And I’m looking forward to recognising everyone’s achievements and celebrating the new award holders at an awards ceremony at the end of the year.”

Randall: We really worked hard at it so I am very pleased that we won
Jo Randall, proprietor of Love Running, Newport, was a Green Impact gold award winner and is looking forward to getting involved again.

Jo said,

“It was a bit of a surprise to win gold, but we really worked hard at it so I am very pleased that we won.

“It’s a real eye-opener, and I say that as someone who thought they were already environmentally conscious – and a vegan!

“We made so many little changes that, in the big scheme of things, add up to an important impact.

“To anyone who’s thinking of joining in with Green Impact this time, I say go for it.”
