March through NewportSt Thomas’ Square in Newport will ring to the sounds of protest and song on the morning of Saturday 7 May when the Alliance hosts a rally in support of the NHS and local public services.

The crowds will hear from health service and local government staff, users and trade union leaders as they relay their experiences of the effects of the current local authority cuts and the potential damage threatened by the NHS reforms.

Lots of entertainment
Local performers Fat Samba, Mick Watson and Lucid will be providing the entertainment and acting as a clarion call to the Saturday morning shoppers.

Alliance spokesperson, Geoff Mason, said “This rally has been called to, once more, bring together the voices of the many anti-cuts campaign groups from across the Island.

“The NHS is under threat, local people are starting to feel the effects of the swingeing Tory council cuts and we want to get our message across loud and clear – we are not going away, we are here for the long haul and we will continue to raise public awareness of the shortcomings of both this council and
central government.”

Fat Samba will kick off proceedings outside the Minster at 11am, with contributions from speakers and the entertainment going on until 12.30pm.

Say ‘no’ to health cuts, and ‘yes’ to a caring society.
