Young people on the Island have been enjoying the chance to reach new heights thanks to a new initiative run by Goodleaf Tree Climbing.
Harley Girvens (10) from East Cowes has cerebral palsy and is a wheelchair user, but has recently found himself 50 feet up in the canopy of an oak tree thanks to funding from Aiming High for Disabled Children which aims to provide more enjoyable activities for children and young people, whilst giving their parents and carers a well-earned break.

Harley’s mum Bonnie Mason says: “The tree climbing was fantastic! Harley went as high as he could go, 50 feet up. The equipment they had for him was great. He said it was the best thing he had ever done in his life.”
Supported by the Isle of Wight Council and the Isle of Wight Primary Care Trust, Special Branch offers disabled youngsters the opportunity to climb into the canopy of mature trees using specialist equipment and techniques.
Aiming High funded activities are available to all disabled young people on the Island whatever their needs. Enrolment forms for the activities are available from Lesley Forde at FIZ on 821999
