There was considerable public outrage after details emerged of ‘bucket loads’ of poison laid around badger setts in Niton, on the Isle of Wight.
OnTheWight has understood for some time that developments on the case had been made and we have just received this from the Hampshire Police
“A 65-year-old man has been arrested in accordance with the Protection of Badger Act 1992 following a joint investigation between Hampshire Constabulary and the RSPCA.
“While the implications of laying poison in badger setts upon the colony cannot be easily be fully assessed, it is hoped that the speed at which this was reported and the contaminated soil cleaned up has minimised the impact.”
