800,000 Metres Charity Rowathon For African Children’s Charity

Whilst the guys from Cycle Wight are kept busy in St James’ Square this weekend, just around the corner in St Thomas’ Square, teams of rowers will be attempting to row a staggering 800,000 metres non-stop on static machines.

The event which has been organised by Nikki Collinson, kicks off at 5pm on Friday and planning to row through the day and night, finishing at around 9pm on Sunday night, the rowers are hoping to raise much needed cash and awareness for Island charity, Africa’s Child.

The charity’s aim is to build a new school in the slums of Kampala as well as providing mosquito nets (only £2.50 and can cover 2-3 children) to prevent children from catching malaria.

The target this year is £10,000 – every penny of this will go to the children as the volunteers are all unpaid.
