The councillor says those who believe in the provision of alternative and diverse learning environments, which suit the requirements of children and young people with different learning needs, should resist this school closure.
The Isle of Wight Studio School was founded in East Cowes in 2014. It brought with it a new and totally different type of state school, offering rigorous academic qualifications in English, Mathematics, Science, Business and Enterprise and high quality vocational qualifications, such as Engineering, coupled with employer-led real work projects.
In April 2018 Inspire Academy Trust announced plans to close the school because there were “too few students choosing to study in Years 12 and 13”.
Parents, pupils and even the head teacher fought back.
