Here are details on what the Isle of Wight council is planning as a solution to stop the rubbish that ends up on many roads on bin collection day.
Household rubbish collection on the Isle of Wight changed considerably in 2010, when waste collection changed to Black bags one week and Recycling the next. It took a little while to adjust to, but now most people get it right.
One downside of the change was the introduction of Wheelie Bins, which for those who had large number of steps (Quite a few houses in hilly Ventnor) or nowhere to keep them (eg Newport) were unusable. This lead to those houses using black plastic bin bags, that, that when left out overnight, are often torn apart by animals – leading the rubbish being left spread over many roads.
With the new waste contract, the council is talk of providing seagull-proof bags to black bin users to try and avoid this problem.
