Ah Bless … It’s The Soon To Be Gambling King Of Ventnor

What a lovely surprise to receive such a convival email from Mr David Peckitt, owner of the soon to open Adult Gaming Centre.

what a lemonSuch a polite and flattering email, and my, what lovely things he says about Ventnor … and the blog … a tear almost came to our eyes when we read it … but really ….. what kind of fools does he think we are?

Come on Dave, haven’t you read the blog? The Adult Gaming Centre is NOT WANTED IN VENTNOR!

From all the discussions on the forum, and talking to shop owners in town anyone can see that.

But here at VentnorBlog, we’re big supporters of local artists, and you might just have have noticed there have been many discussions on the forum about using the spare shop fronts of Ventnor to display art. And for that reason, we are more than happy to publish your email.

Hi,
My name is David Peckitt, soon to be a trader in Ventnor town centre. I will be operating an Adult Gaming Centre at 15 high street. I have been looking, for some time, for some merchandise and art to sell in my shop window at a non profit making scheme. I would be interested in helping young and old to give them an outlet for their work and would particuraly like to sell some charitable items.

I have contacted you because i think Ventnor is the most amazing and friendly place on the island and your website presnts that very well. I would be happy to also promote your website too.

I do not want any money nor will charge anybody anything for selling thir items. Writers are also very welcome to offer their work for sale. Music would be fantastic.

The entire frontage of the premises will be kept as retail. This is entirely my choice and my proposal, as regretably we seem to of lost too many retail shops in Ventnor of recent times.

Feel free to post an article on your website and you can also include my email address. If you do not feel that you can be of help then i am sorry for bothering you.

In the meantime keep up the good work with your website!

David Peckitt.

Now that’s over and done with let’s get down to brass tacks.

Your turn of phrase is a little peculiar, “This is entirely my choice and my proposal” – what a very strange thing to write in a letter, it’s like saying “hello Officer, did I tell you, I haven’t just killed my wife?”

As I’m sure you well know Dave, that side of the road is retail only, so you wouldn’t have got planning permission for the gaming centre without a shop front.

One of the reasons retail premises have been disappearing is that they’re being converted into things like … adult gaming centres. Another is, developers make more money out of residential than retail and are cutting into floorspace at the back of shop premises for use of the flats above … the outcome is that shop space is too small, making it impractical to have retail space and a stock room and so shop spaces remains empty … perpetuating the problem. The council are then more open to grant permission for things like …. adult gaming centres. It’s a cycle you see Dave.

As far as charitable goods go, if you’ve ever been to Ventnor Davey, you might have noticed that windows full of charitable goods isn’t something we’re short of mate.
