Andrew Turner Chosen For Executive of the 1922 Committee

Press release from Island MP, Andrew Turner

Andrew Turner the Island’s MP has been chosen to serve again as a member of the Executive of the 1922 Committee.

The Executive represents the views of backbench Members of Parliament to the leadership of the Conservative Party and meets each week when the House of Commons sits to discuss forthcoming parliamentary business.

It is sometimes described as the ‘trade union’ for Conservative MPs and is a very influential group within the Conservative Party. Members of the Executive are selected every year by all Conservative MPs to represent their views.

Mr Turner said;

“I am very pleased that I am to continue to serve on the Executive of the 1922 Committee. It is an honour for my colleagues to have demonstrated their confidence in me in this way.”

Sir Michael Spicer MP, Chairman of the 1922 Committee said,

“I am delighted that Andrew Turner has been re-elected to the 1922 Executive Committee of which he is a highly valued member.”

The 1922 Committee gets its name from the year a group of Conservative back bench MPs voted to end the coalition formed by the Liberal Party with the Conservative Party although it was not actually formed until 1923.
