The new Bishop of Portsmouth has been announced.
Bishop Christopher Foster will officially take up the role later this
year, but yesterday there was at a ceremony at the top of the Spinnaker Tower, where he’d have seen part of his diocese – the Isle of Wight.
He’s currently the Bishop of Hertford in the St Albans diocese, but said that he’s “honoured and excited to be invited to be Bishop of Portsmouth. There will be much to discover as I get to know this part of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, the people, villages and towns.”
He spent part of his day being introduced as the Ninth Bishop at Newport Minster, commenting, “My role as Bishop of Portsmouth will be to lead a church that cares for people, encourages discipleship, shares in God’s mission, and stands for truth and justice.
