Bob Seely questioned on Downing Street party photos (Update 2)

The latest chapter in the parties during lockdown in Downing Street opened when ITV News published a series of photos that showed the party scenes of multiple bottles of alcohol in various states of being drunk and Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, raising his glass, apparently giving a toast.

Since then, the BBC have reported that there were up to 30 people at the parties, with no social distancing in place and that the security guard who wanted to put a stop to a get-together was mocked for trying.

A full day ago we wrote to Bob Seely to ask him two connected questions

1) What’s your view on the ITV News photos showing Boris Johnson with a drink held high at a party, with at least eight other people present, alongside multiple open bottles of wine, in Downing Street on 13th Nov 2020, when the Government rules in the country at that time were that no groups larger than two people were allowed to meet?

2) Do you feel comfortable that when asked if there had been a party in Downing Street on the 13th Nov, he told the House “no but I’m sure whatever happened, the guidance and the rules were followed at all times”?

We’re keen to get a response as soon as possible on this one please.

Since then there’s been no response from him or his office.

This does follow a pattern when Bob isn’t prepared to share his views with those who elected him to represent them in the House of Commons.

When the Prime Minister was fined by the Police for breaking lockdown rules, Bob wasn’t available to comment, even after nine days there wasn’t a reply, and he chose not to respond to local press enquiries, only commenting on a national stage.

As another example, back in January the Isle of Wight MP didn’t answer when asked whether he supported the Prime Minister after Boris Johnson attended a ‘Bring Your Own Drinks’ party held in May 2020.

The Sue Gray report is due out today.

Seely: I won’t be calling on Boris Johnson to resign
Four hours after publishing this article and some time after the Sue Gray report was published, we received a response from the MP’s office. He chose not to answer the questions, but instead provided the following statement:

“I, like many others today, heard the Prime Minister’s statement and apology following the publication of Sue Gray’s report. Clearly, there are lessons to be learned and we have already heard from the Prime Minister that changes have been made in Downing Street.

“I hope that we can now move on so that Government can focus on other pressing matters including the rise in the cost of living, our response to Russian aggression and levelling up our country, as the Prime Minister outlined today.

“I won’t be calling on Boris Johnson to resign, in the same way that I won’t be calling on Labour leader Keir Starmer to resign, if he is fined breaking the rules of lockdown over the infamous ‘beergate’ supper in April 2021.”

Unfortunately it’s clear that our MP subscribes to the idea that it’s fine for a law to be broken if someone feels it’s too restrictive. This view of being “freedom-loving” may cause a few issues in the longer term, however…

Led By Donkeys are always usefully less silent than Seely et al on such subjects, and their work is easily found online…

It would not surprise me at all if he was at one of these parties. He does have a track record, hence Half a Sausage Seely.

We will now view look ALL rules in a broad view. And look at our own benefit in the same way as our MP and Establishment. It is only right!

Boris will remain in post as he should do. I look forward to Starmer and his Chav sidekick being fined for Beargate and then resigning in conc. It will be so beautiful if that occurred 🙏 .

Appalled that Bob Seely has the gall to infer there is comparison between ‘beergate’ and the succession of ‘booze’ fuelled parties held at No 10 on Boris Johnson’s watch.

Mr Seely – We cannot move on until at least a semblance of dignity is returned to the leadership of this country. The people of Britain are shamed by you. If you wish to expedite moving on, the prime minister and all those in high office who insist that this behaviour is acceptable should step down with all possible haste.

Bob is still desperately clinging to the vague promise of an Island Deal, rather than acknowledging he’s made a mistake by supporting the PM thus far. To be honest, I’m not sure that even a multi-million pound Island Deal would save Bob’s reputation now. He’s shown himself to be lacking any sense of leadership quality – it beggars belief he ever achieved his military rank. I wouldn’t… Read more »

A response from Bob Seely, as reliable as a Cross-Solent Ferry service.

I will gladly remind Bob and the electorate on the island of how they behaved, attending BBQs, driving to Castle Barnard, having regular office p*ss ups at Downing Street, while our relatives died alone of Covid or had funerals via zoom.

Unfortunately, sadly, ashamedly, despicably, we are living in a world ruled by Pariahs including those on the Sunday Times so called and seriously miss-named rich list.
We have been raised to live in a culture where the filthy rich are revered and the poor are trod on.

The rot that is in the Met Police has spread further than we all thought possible. Not a very good photo of Bob looks as though he has been to an all-nighter with his hair. The most horrendous of all the parties was the one the night before HRH Duke of Edinburgh funeral – 4 am finish and how many of them drove home? Obviously no respect… Read more »

After-thought. I hope the Tax Payers didn’t pay for these parties, and if not who did? They should be held even more responsible for failing the country, the public, the people who were already working a 24 hour day during this awful period and those who sadly lost family and friends to Covid and other illnesses who were unable to bade their last farewells. I do feel… Read more »

At least with all this Partygate stuff we can be distracted from the other questions of the day 1. Which Tory MP has been charged with rape? (clue; its not Mark Francois this time). 2. Which other “Senior” Tory MP has spiked 4 other(male) MP’s drinks for sexual purposes? I would have thought this was all a bit more serious, but is being suppressed as nobody is… Read more »

In answer to your two questions, 1) A gathering/assembly/leaving do within your workplace is not a party. That said, you are entitled to a break when you’re working long hours, as they all were, and a few sandwiches on a table within your workplace is hardly a party, is it? 2) Boris can’t be everywhere in the building. Why should he take responsibility for civil servants in… Read more »

“we have already heard from the Prime Minister that changes have been made in Downing Street”

and yet the change really needed is for the PM to take responsibility for his actions and resign – unfortunately he won’t as he appears to have no conscience..

Sorry I’m losing track – did Bob Seely answer OntheWight’s questions or not ?

bigj

Bob did answer, in so far as is necessary.
Boris was fined a mere £50 after thorough investigation.
Currygate hasn’t yet been thoroughly investigated – why – because Boris isn’t bleating like a sore loser.
This is becoming rather boring!
PLEASE do we heed Bob’s wise words “I hope that we can now move on so that Government can focus on other pressing matters”

BigJ, I see you are repeating the whisper from on high which is to disseminate Boris’s message ‘it’s time to move on.’ We’ll let you know when we’re ready to move on. But until your master has actually done as he says and takes responsibility in the only way left to him, which is to say that he falls on his sword, or at least bruises a… Read more »

I thought you were joking until I checked.

I’d love to know from my friends who are faithful to the party, How is this justifiable?

Is this not a clear sign of things are slipping in the wrong direction?
