Fancy a bit of a giggle on a wet and blowy Monday morning?
The ‘Excite’ Website appears to have got itself a little too … over-Excite-d.
It’s published an article with the headline, “Different Ferries from Bournemouth to the Isle of Wight”, which, if it were correct, would be major news those of us familiar with cross-Solent travel, wouldn’t it?
The three ports that they list as connecting to the Island are Lymington, Southampton and Bournemouth. The error is obvious – Portsmouth and been replaced by Bournemouth. Quite how the error could have possibly have happened is far less obvious.
Excite used to have quite a lot of credibility, with it being early in the Internet game, launching in 1995. Looking at their ‘About’ page, it shows that they were bought in 2007, now focusing on “generating qualified traffic on the Internet”. Translated that means, publishing lots of articles, so they’re found in search engines. Not a lot of use if the info that is being published is nonsense though.
Clearly their editorial control, at least on this article, has slipped.
Gave us a giggle though.
Thanks to the many people who sent us this over the weekend – too many of you to name this time!
