Update 13.10pm: Sadly we’ve just heard that the cyclist, who has not yet been named, died at St Mary’s Hospital this morning.
A 47-year-old Brighstone woman is in a critical condition in hospital following a collision at Brook, Newport on Sunday.
The incident happened shortly before 11am as the woman cycled south on the B3399 Brook Shute.
The cyclist passed over a wet section of the road and lost control of her bike, falling off and hitting her head on the road.
Wearing a cycle helmet
The woman, who was wearing a cycle helmet, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport with life threatening head injuries.
She remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Anyone who saw the incident or the cyclist prior to the crash is asked to contact PC Simon Richardson at Shanklin Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Dowlas.
