Calling all Cyclists! Fancy Taking On ‘The Big 8’?

This in from Ben at the Hospice, in his own words. Ed

CyclistsWe would like to invite all cyclists to take on the challenge of ‘The Big 8’ on-road cycle route in aid of Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

This 50 mile ride will take you from the grand start at Robin Hill Adventure Park and Gardens and onto an anti-clockwise figure-of-eight route on some of the Islands best, and most scenic, roads.

First loop of the eight
The first loop of the 8 will take you through Carisbrooke, out towards Shalfleet before cutting south through Chessell and the beautiful surrounding villages. You’ll then head back towards the Robin Hill checkpoint through Gatcombe and Blackwater.

The second loop of the 8 will take you north towards the Ryde checkpoint before heading towards the coast and the Shanklin checkpoint. From here it’s a pleasurable ride up through Godshill and Merstone to the finishing checkpoint at Robin Hill.

Pre-register or turn up
The event takes place on Sunday 19th June, with staggered starting times from 8.30am – 10.30am. Entry to this event is £20, all of which goes towards providing patient care at the Island’s Hospice.

You can pre-register, and find more information, on the Hospice’s website or by calling the Fundraising Office on (01983) 528989.

We will also be taking registrations on the day of the event, just simply turn up between the starting times.

Registration includes light refreshments, five manned checkpoints along the route, parking, route map, rider number and medal for all riders who complete the route.

Ferry discounts for mainland riders
Wightlink and Red Funnel Ferries are offering generous discounts to all mainland riders making their way to ‘The Big 8’. Full details of these offers can be found on the Hospice’s website.

We hope that you will join us on the inaugural year of ‘The Big 8’ and help us celebrate Team Green Britain National Bike Week and raise vital funds for a great cause.
